CarbonNavigator is a web-based CEMS product that helps organisations manage footprint data, abatement project planning, permit purchase inventories, marginal cost of abatement curves and auction bidding guidance. It also allows organisations to manage carbon liabilities from a financial and strategic planning perspective. It allows organizations to build and compare scenarios for their carbon management. Scenarios may differ according to many factors, including footprint forecasts, carbon price forecasts, abatement project portfolios and credit/permit surrender strategies.
Tradeslot specialises in electronic markets and auction theory and developed CarbonNavigator in response to the Australian government’s NGERS (National Greenhouse Emissions Reporting System), introduced in 2007. The company and its products are well-regarded in Australia and have won a number of awards. It is seeking VC funding to expand internationally and to perhaps spin off CarbonNavigator into a separate business. The software offers compliance to elements of NGERS (built in Australian conversion factors, triggers for facility trip points, emissions profile defined by scope), and CPRS (built in trigger flags, primary market permit auction guidance including relevant price caps, carbon price forecasting).
The software is delivered as a web based application or as a SaaS application hosted by Tradeslot. The program runs on Windows and is written in .Net. The software is licensed per annual or monthly subscription. Support is provided from 9am-5pm (AEST). The standard license agreement includes four hours initial training, with additional training available. Users enter into a 12-month Service Level Agreement with Tradeslot, which includes an SLA with a third party back-up provider.
Carbon Navigator does not yet integrate with other systems to harvest footprint data. However there are in-built features that minimize the data entry process (import/export from/to MS Excel). Tradeslot says it has plans to develop this integration functionality.
