CarbonView is a web-based CEMS product that helps organisations measure their impact on the environment by calculating direct and indirect carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent emissions. It combines carbon data with financial data which can assist in achieving more effective GHG related business planning. The software presents realistic business scenarios to help minimise carbon output. CarbonView provides services to clients which helps them mitigate and reduce their carbon emissions' by identifying potential hotspots.

Viewlocity’s initial focus was in supply chain visibility, and it developed CarbonView as a solution to measure, monitor and optimise a company’s carbon footprint in consideration of the extended supply chain. Viewlocity was incorporated in 1998 as a global software and solutions company with its headquarters in Atlanta, USA and has offices in the USA, UK, China, South East Asia and Australia. In December 2006, a change of ownership meant that the headquarters moved to Sydney. CarbonView has since won the Australian Consensus Awards in 2008.

The software offers NGERS - Australia, GHG 2004 & 2008 - Europe/Asia/NZ, CRIS - USA/Canada, and Defra – UK compliance, and is IS014001 - ISO14064, ISO14044-49, PAS2050 and WRI/UNFCCC GHG protocol standards compliant. The company purports to assist organisations prepare for all international carbon emissions legislative requirements.

The software is delivered as a web-based SaaS application and is hosted by CarbonView. The program runs on Windows, Linux/ Unix, Apple Mac and has been written in Java. It utilises the open source PostGres SQL database and is licensed per seat (on an annual or monthly subscription). This is applied per site and is dependent on the number of users. The software is currently offered in English, Chinese, Japanese and French.

CarbonView captures carbon emissions at the asset level and as a result allows carbon emissions abatement analysis. It has a secondary indirect carbon allocation process (CAP) for practical LCA's. It offers the ability to assign structured role based access for users. KPI based dashboards/scorecards are included. It also has the ability to capture water and other outputs/waste.
