OpenEco

Vendor: Sun Microsystems, Inc

OpenEco.org is a free CEMS product from Sun Microsystems that helps organisations to assess, track, and compare energy performance to calculate, track and reduce their carbon footprint. The GHG calculation tool currently focuses on emissions from electricity and natural gas use in buildings. It also provides a top-level organisation dashboard where users can track a broad spectrum of emission sources to provide a comprehensive view of an organisations (or individual's) carbon footprint.

OpenEco.org is a free online community sponsored by Sun Microsystems. It offers basic GHG accounting for organisations to help organisations to assess, track, and compare energy performance. It aimed at allowing the sharing of best practices to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and encourage sustainable innovation.

The software offers Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the EPA Climate Leaders compliance. It can allow organisations to track GHG emissions totals from all source categories include in Scopes 1, 2, and 3 in the GHG Protocol. (Note that Sun Microsystems is currently in the process of being acquired by Oracle).

It is a free web-based application that is hosted by OpenEco.org or can be hosted internally by an organisation. It has been written in Java and can be run on the major platforms. It is supported by a MySQL database and it available only in English. Support is available via an online webform.

OpenEco.org provides data visualisation via Fusion Charts which can be embedded onto other web pages. It offers a Community Compare feature, allowing site users to compare their building energy performance and related emissions with others in the community, and it does not manage non-GHG emissions.
