SAP provides a suite of CEMS products that helps organisations measure, mitigate, and monetise carbon emissions and other environmental impacts. These are: SAP Carbon Impact, SAP Environmental Compliance, and SAP Sustainability Performance Management.
SAP Carbon Impact (formerly known as Clear Standards) is a hosted CEMS solution that allows for abatement modeling, lifecycle analysis and voluntary scope 2 and 3 reporting. SAP Environmental Compliance is an on-premise CEMS solution that allows for mandatory scope 1 and 2 reporting on air pollutants, or emissions to water, and managing waste. SAP Sustainability Performance Management is an on premise internally hosted CEMS solution and is used for stakeholder reporting.
SAP in a major ERP vendor that provides various business applications and services to more than 86,000 customers worldwide. ClearStandards was acquired by SAP in May 2009 and to ensure SAP customers are able to meet their carbon management requirements from regulations and public expectations. The solutions offer NGERS, EEO, CPRS, EREP, ESAP, GGAS, SESP, REES, CDP or DJSI compliance, and it also offers compliance to the ISO 14064 standard.
The solutions are delivered as a web-based SaaS application hosted by SAP or internally hosted by the client. It has been written in a combination of Java and SAP ABAP. The program runs on the major platforms and database servers. It is licensed per annual subscription and the internally hosted solution is licensed by named user and company size. The solutions requires SAP Netweaver.
SAP aims to provide this functionality once an appropriate mechanism exists. Emissions formulae are provided as a standard part of the hosted solution (i.e. WRI), but are configured during implementation for the on-premise solution in any given country.
